well a year has come and gone and due to the realities of life I was unable to do the tour divide in 2011. My intentions are to complete the ride, maybe this year, maybe next. I just want to do it and I'm not in a rush. So I will train and have fun doing it and if I complete the ride in 2012, great, if its 2013, 2014, 2015, etc then so be it and in that case I'll just keep changing the info box for this blog. :) cheers!

June 14th, 2010

Monday, Monday, Monday. Got in a yoga session in the morning before running off to work. Was planning on hitting the gym but got busy packing the house and running around looking for bike boxes and then packing up the bikes. Movers come in two days and then we leave in three. Hoping to get to take our bikes back with us on the plane, or at least Kerri's since it could take almost two months to get our stuff otherwise. Ate well today, smoothie in the morning, weird Korean food for lunch, and the best pizza I have ever had for dinner(thanks honey!). Didnt sleep to well, thats what happens when you have to wake up for a midnight conference call and are a bit anxious to get home, oh well. Cheers!

June 12th/13th, 2010

Ah, the weekend. Well to bad it rained today, was supposed to be our final ride with the MTBK group(Mountain Bike Korea). Instead spent the day packing the house and just getting ready to move. Did make it to the gym and got in a super set of doing max sets of 10 of everything I could think of. Sunday I woke up and did yoga in the morning before heading to Insadong where Kerri and I met up with Nic and had a lovely afternoon having tea and shopping for last minute Korean swag. Went for a 6 mile run when I got home. Twas a good weekend. Cheers!

June 11th, 2010

Well, today was a day off. Felt like shit until the evening. Went to dinner with work and had a chicken stew. I also tried something called ammonia fish, well its called that for a reason, the lingering after taste is horrible along with your breath. So much for training.

June 10th, 2010.

Today was the first day on the way to completing the Tour Divide in 2011. Got up and did Yoga, well tried to do yoga, only to be interrupted by my brain and the current process of moving from South Korea back to Montana. Its amazing how easy it was to leave my own country, pack up a crate and then set up in a foreign country in a couple weeks. But doing it the other way, man Ive filled out at least a dozen pieces of paper and for what ever reason while it only took a few weeks to get our stuff over hear its going to take 6-8 weeks to get back in the states. We also have a cat and trying to find out the proper information has been like going in circles, you go to the customs page and they direct you to the FDA, and then they direct you to the EPA, and then they direct you to the freaking White House, and they send you back to Customs. Ok, its not exactly like that but you get the point. Turns out she just needs to look healthy and have had some shots, which she has. Anyways, I guess that would be the mental side of this blog. On to the physical.

So yoga didnt really happen, although I guess I did do the stretching parts and that counts for something. In the evening I met up with a friend of mine, Dan, and we went on a night mountain bike ride at Bundang. Been there in the day and its usually so crowded that its no fun. Not this time, not a soul on the trails. We started out a little before dark and so didnt need to use our lights, but once we did I quickly learned that my charger lied to me with its green, everything is charged, light. Luckily I brought my camping head lamp and some double sided wall hanging 3M magic stuff and was able to rig my headlamp onto my helmet. See picture below.

As you can see I also utilized the light mount from my nite rider light to secure the battery pack to the top of my helmet. In the end it worked great, the light even out lasted my friends two lights before we got back.

Half way through the ride we stopped and had a tall boy to sharpen our senses for when it really got dark. At the end of the ride we grabbed a few more tall boys(500mL beers) and sat near a lake near the trail head discussing life as we see it. Was a fine evening.

Wasnt exactly the most perfect training day but sometimes you just have to go and have fun. Until tomorrow. Cheers!

T-minus One Year

Consider this my declaration of intent. One year from today, June 10th 2011, I will start the Tour Divide from Banff, AB to Antelope Wells, NM, 2745 miles.
